AMERICAN CAPITAL DECLARES DIVIDEND OF $0.43 PER SHARE, A 5% INCREASE OVER THE PRIOR QUARTER AND A 48% INCREASE OVER THE SECOND QUARTER OF 1998

BETHESDA, Md., May 6 -- American Capital Strategies, Ltd. (Nasdaq:ACAS) today announced its Board of Directors has declared a second quarter 1999 dividend of $0.43 per share, payable on June 30, 1999 to record holders as of June 21, 1999. This dividend is a 5% increase over the previous quarter's regular dividend of $0.41 per share.
