SPECIALTY TRANSPORTATION SERVICES, INC. SIGNS WASTE TRANSPORT CONTRACT WITH UNITED WASTE SERVICES, INC. IN ATLANTA, GA
SHANNON, Ill., Feb. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Specialty Transportation Services, Inc. ("STS"), a subsidiary of Aasche Transportation Services, Inc. (Nasdaq: ASHE) announced today the signing of a five year contract with United Waste Services, Inc. ("UWS"), a subsidiary of Republic Waste Industries, Inc. ("Republic"), to load and transport municipal solid waste from UWS' transfer station in Atlanta, Ga., to the Pine Ridge Regional Landfill in Griffin, Ga. The agreement represents the first major contract entered into by STS since the January 30, 1998 acquisition of the municipal solid waste transport division of Jack Gray Transport, Inc.
"Obviously, we are very excited with this contract as it represents the beginning of what we hope will be a long and mutually beneficial relationship between Republic and STS for the outsourcing of municipal solid waste transportation services. Although we are currently providing these services for several other Republic companies throughout the United States on a non-contract basis, this contract represents the first long-term contract with a Republic company," commented Gary I. Goldberg, STS' President. This terminal will be operated from Aasche's existing terminal in Conley, Ga., and represents STS' ninth terminal facility. Other STS terminals include: Portland, Ore.; Long Island, N.Y.; Los Angeles, Calif.; Phoenix, Ariz.; Nashville, Tenn.; Seattle, Wash.; Greensboro, N.C.; and Spartanburg, S.C.
STS is a leading provider of municipal solid waste transport services from transfer station to landfill for major waste services companies. Asche Transfer, Inc. and AG Carriers, Inc. are leading providers of temperature- controlled, time sensitive transportation of frozen foods, juice concentrates, perishable commodities, household and retail commodities, and tropical foliage.
